You find balance by naming your needs.

The Question:

How can I regain my balance when I lose mine?

&mpersand Answers:

Oy. Balance. We hear it all the time. Especially work-life balance. But our world is far more often out of balance than in balance these days. In fact, in the West, one particular government has, as its singular go-to strategy, imbalance as a priority mandate. That’s how it keeps its power—by keeping us off-balance.

So, let’s start with the obvious. You’re going to be off-balance much more than you’ll be in balance here on Earth. Get over it.

It’s like that old story of the airline pilot being off-course ninety-three percent of the time, and on-course, thusly, seven percent of the time. What is the pilot doing the rest of the time? Steering, Belovèd.

And that’s exactly what we each do when we’re off-balance. We steer. We work with ourselves and our energy and the things around us that we allow to influence us.

Naming your needs is the fastest way I know to restore inner balance. It usually asks that we hold still (in the midst of the maelstrom,) listen within, find out what we need right now, and go get it.

And no, a new government is not what you need right now (although it wouldn’t hurt.) What you need right now is usually far simpler, and always attainable. If what you think you need isn’t attainable, it’s not what you need right now.

I know, that can be a hard one to swallow, but consider … a deep breath, a time-out, a glass of water, a ten-minute walk in nature, three minutes with your journal, a good weep, a new book to read. I could go on but you take my point. What you need is within reach. Without exception.

And … when you have what you need, and your balance is restored for the moment, then you can much more easily ask another what they need, and help them to restore their own balance.
