Ampersand Answers: Magical Lenses

Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life,
Love gives us a Fairy Tale.

The Question:

How can I see the magic in my everyday life?

&mpersand Answers:

Sarah Ban Breathnach is a spiritual teacher who introduced me to the notion that I live a charmed life—filled with joy, lovely surprises, unsurpassing beauty, ease, loads of fun, luck, and cookies.

IF I’ll choose that lens.

When I was a very small girl, my daddy and I used to play peekaboo with the Fairies Behind the Sofa. I could see them, and so could he. Now, my mama was a different story. She wasn’t really a fairies-behind-the-sofa person, so she couldn’t see them.

What made the difference? That lens.

So, what lens are you using to look at ordinary life? And, more to the point, do you like what you’re seeing the way you’re seeing it?

My mom called her lens realistic. My daddy always winked at me from behind her back. We liked our realistic better, that’s all.

The real issue here, Belovèd, and we so easily lose sight of this is … you get to choose your lens!

Every minute of every day.

If you don’t like what you’re seeing, change your lens. You don’t need anyone’s permission but your own, and you can change it as often as you like.

But life lenses are a little like brand loyalty. You get used to the ones you’ve used the most often, and forget there are other options. Try a new brand of butter this week, and change your lens as often as you like.

Who knows? You might just find yourself in a fairies-behind-the-sofa, fairy tale situation, and we all know how those stories end, don’t we? Happily ever after.
