Ampersand Answers: Ready

Life doesn’t wait for you to be ready for things.

Sometimes life just makes things ready for you.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

The Question:

How can I know if I’m ready in my life?

&mpersand Answers:

The real answer is, you can’t. That’s why I liked what Alexandrian Ocasio-Cortez had to say about readiness.

What most of us mean when we say we’re not ready for something is that we don’t feel ready. But let me ask you this: how could you possibly feel ready for something you’ve never done?

Truth is, you can’t feel ready. So Representative Ocasio-Cortez is considering a run for the presidency. She should. But she’s also wondering about marriage, and having a family. She exploded social media when she wrote about having some of her eggs frozen.

She’s attempting to be ready … to run for president maybe … to marry maybe … to be a mother maybe, but all of these are maybes not definites.

For your own readiness, you might ask yourself these questions: Have I done everything I know to do to get ready? Is there anything I’ve avoided that needs to be done before I can even be ready? Or, Is ready just a code word for … this is a risk, and I’m scared?

If it’s the last one, you’re ready.
