Seed: Buttons

We all know what buttons are, right? Those cute little round things that fasten the fronts of our shirts. So buttons are connectors. What does it mean when someone pushes your buttons?

When someone pushes your buttons, they aggravate you usually, or they get on your nerves. As in: My mother-in-law really pushes my buttons.

No one seems to know where this slang expression came from but they do know it arose during the 1920s. For some reason, I always picture this as a button panel in an elevator, although I’m pretty sure it comes more from someone pointing a finger at one’s shirt buttons.

Well, if buttons, even elevator buttons, are connectors, try to remember this the next time someone pushes your buttons. What they’re doing is connecting you to something you’d rather forget a lot of the time. The sooner you get conscious about whatever it is, the sooner no one will be able to push that particular button.

Be brilliant,
