When Ask Is Have

Seeds XIII, 17

Seed:  Where Ask is Have

Many of you know I write mysteries. As a result, I consider it my responsibility to read mysteries. My favorite way is to buy a whole series by the same author, and move into that world for a while. I learn loads, and not even remotely about mysteries.

In the final Adam Dagliesh novel, The Private Patient by P.D. James, there is a bronze plaque in a private chapel inscribed with a poem by 18th century British poet Christopher Smart …

But stronger still, in earth and air,

and in the sea, the man of prayer,

and far beneath the tide;

and in the seat to faith assigned,

where ask is have, where seek is find,

where knock is open wide. (italics mine)

I was arrested into stillness.

Where ask is have. Where is that?

Where seek is find. Where is that?

Where knock is open wide. Where, oh where, is that?

Here, dear one. Here.

Be magical,

Susan Corso

Out of Time

Time is a real issue for a lot of people in our world these days. I’ve given a lot of my thought time to time, and I offer these insights as a way to deal with the issue.

Linear time is a strictly human construct. Nature doesn’t consider time as She waxes and wanes. There aren’t minutes or hours or days or weeks or even years for Mother Nature. There’s only order.

How we deal with time is by our choices. Each one of us chooses what to give our time to, and what not to give our time to despite the fact that we lament having “not enough time.” Where you invest your time is where life matters to you.

We all have the same amount of time. 24 hours in a day apply if you’re me, or you’re you, or you’re the Sheikh of Araby. There are no favorites when it comes to time. Even if you are rolling in money, you still have no more time than anyone else.

Some of us feel we are “ahead of our time,” or “out of step with the times.” Good for us. Who says we have to go along with the times? Someone has to seed the new ideas that make the times change.

One of the best serum antidotes to the craziness of our busy world that I know is to step out of time. Have a play day. Play hooky. Stay in your pjs. Thumb your nose at clock time. Do whatever you wanna do, and don’t do what you don’t want to do. Step away from your phone, and your computer, and the clock on the kitchen wall, and your daytimer and anything else that reminds that there are a million other ways you could be using your time.

So often people who come to counsel with me want time to live their purpose. They have the time—it’s just that they’re not using it for their purpose. Make your choices wisely, dear one, and your time needs will take care of themselves.

Mea Culpa

I committed a faux pas a couple of weeks ago that I might never have known about had a friend not called. I forgot my editor’s birthday—the man who literally showed up and cleared out and questioned and dialogued me into the proper voice(s) for my spiritual mystery novels. I couldn’t believe it. He’s so important to me—how could I?

Well, here’s how. Life happened. Things were busy. I was up to my eyeballs in a huge, outside-my-ordinary-life project and I forgot to check my usual birthday list at the beginning of the month.

My editor is a forgiving man—fortunately for me.

But let me shout it out here for all to see.

Happy Birthday, dearest,

and Many, Many More.

I am so very glad that you were born.

Much love,

Susan
